Local response to rising energy bills
TRANSITION COBHAM supported by Cobham Heritage Trust
- Stéphanie Jacometti and Liz Barton
Experts may disagree on whether or not oil production has peaked yet, but one thing is certain: our energy bills and fuel costs are rising fast. "We have seen the end of the Age of Cheap Fossil Fuels," writes Transition's founder, Rob Hopkins, in his new book, 'The Power of Just Doing Stuff'. He argues that we are entering a new era where energy supplies will be harder to access and more costly to extract.
The Transition movement is about transitioning to a more local and sustainable future. Its goal is to make communities more resilient in the face of challenges such as energy scarcity and rising living costs.
Transition Cobham has set up an Energy group to help people save energy through awareness-raising and advice sessions. It is currently doing a survey to find out more about local people's attitudes towards renewable energy.
The Public transport group has published a Questionnaire about the local bus services and if you wish to participate please either download a printable copy here or preferably complete the online questionnaire by clicking here.
These are small steps, but Transition Cobham is taking action. It is possible to reduce our energy bills. It is possible to make public transport more accessible. It is possible to connect the community and learn new skills. So please share your views with us – we would welcome your input!
