Cobham Heritage Day - Sat 8th Sept 2012
Once again the CCHT has been busy organising the 7th Cobham Heritage Day which is due to take place on Sat 8th September 2012 between 11am and 4:30pm
The free event is now in its 7th year and is an ideal event to bring the family as there is something for everyone, especially the children.
Church Street will be closed to traffic and filled with stalls which will continue around the church yard and into the riverside garden behind Church Gate House. The Church Gate House garden will feature stalls and attractions especially for children, including Punch and Judy. In Church Gate House, cream teas will be served so parents can keep an eye on their children while enjoying a nice cup of tea. Street entertainment will include a Jazz band, Morris Dancers and the stilt walking and juggling duo, Phillippe and Philloppe.
The Cobham Garden & Horticultural Association will be holding their Autumn Show in the Marquee on the Leg O'Mutton Field together with the Classic Car and Bike Show. Cars will range from from the humble Austin A7s to a rare Cobham-built Railton Terraplane. Not content with just Cars and Motor Bikes we will also have a replica of a biplane courtesy of Brooklands Museum.
As mentioned above the local Horticultural Association will be holding their Autumn Show. Everyone is encouraged to enter so even if you don't have a prize winning marrow you could still enter the cookery, embroidery, photography or "My Favourite Hobby" classes. There are also classes for Floral Arrangments. To encourage children to take part there are Heritage Day Classes for children. These classes include: Miniture Garden in a rigid container; a Veggie Monster; home made biscuits or sponge cake. Another class invites children to enter a photograph or drawing which shows a "magic moment of the countryside in Cobham". There is also a chance to win £10 in the 'free' draw for each entry form. For entry forms and Show Schedule please visit the Cobham Garden and Horticultural Associations website at www.surreycommunity.info/cobhamgarden_horticultural_association/
The Cobham Mill will be working on Cobham Heritage Day, so this is an ideal time to see a working water mill in action.
For those who would rather experience a more leisurely pace, the beautiful Church Stile House garden will be open (small charge) and will include a beekeeping exhibition and soothing music.
The main event of the day comes at 4pm on the banks of the river.
This is the Cobham Heritage/Knight Frank Duck Race. Six thousand plastic yellow ducks race from the weir by the Cobham Mill down to the finish line at Riverhill opposite the The Old Bear Pub. The first ten ducks to arrive win cash prizes for their sponsors.
You can sponsor a duck for £1 each. Duck tickets will be available most Saturdays in Cobham between the 18th August and Heritage Day. Duck Tickets will also be available on other days as detailed here. If you don't manage to get your tickets before the day you can buy them on Heritage Day although availability will be limited.
The Final Event of the day at 7:30pm is our regular "Last Night of the Proms" concert in St Andrews Church. The Cobham Band and guest soloist Olivia Safe will be performing. This is a ticket only event. Tickets can be purchased for £8 each and include an interval drink.
