| Additional Information: | Son of Walter and Florence Kate Duffield; husband of Marion Frances Duffield, of Cobham, Surrey. Living at Slyfield Farm in 1939, occupation bus conductor. Served 4 years with 11th Bn. King's Royal Rifle Corps, which saw action at the Second Battle of El Alamein, and in Italy from October, 1943. In early 1944 transferred to 1st Bn. York and Lancaster Regiment, which was sent to the Anzio beachhead in March. Killed during the operation to break out of the beachhead, trying to bring a wounded comrade to safety. |
