Additional Information: Son of John Alfred and Mabel Patience Woodgate, of Cobham, Surrey; husband of Esther Woodgate, of Cobham. Born in Cobham. Member of the Home Guard before joining the Army. The 2nd Hampshires landed at Salerno in Italy on 9th September, 1943 with 128th (Hampshire) Brigade, which secured the beachhead and advanced several miles inland. Enemy counter-attacks began on the 13th and continued until the Germans withdrew on the 20th, as Allied forces approached from the south. Died of wounds.
