| Additional Information: | Son of Walter and May Sidaway; husband of Ada Elsie Sidaway, of Cobham, Surrey. Joined the East Surrey Regiment before the war. On 23rd March, 1943 the battalion disembarked at Algiers to join the Tunisian Campaign. On the night of 4/5th April, they moved to the front line at Djebel Zebia, a mountain of around 2, 500 ft. west of Tunis. Killed during a successful operation by the 1/6th East Surreys to recapture a hill known as Djebel Djaffa, which commanded the road to Tunis. |
