Served with No. 1 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit, flying unarmed long-range Spitfires. Based at R.A.F. Benson, Oxfordshire, the unit evolved from a civilian venture set up by Sidney Cotton at Heston, Middlesex, taken over by the R.A.F. in September, 1939. Killed flying Spitfire Ia X4029, which failed to return from a flight to Rotterdam.
