Served with 4th Dorsetshires, which landed in Normandy 17 days after D-Day and saw action in Normandy and at Arnhem during Operation Market Garden. Killed during Operation Veritable, the Battle of the Reichswald, as the battalion led the advance from Kleve in Germany and met with strong resistance from paratroopers occupying farmhouses in open terrain.
